The National Weather Service (NWS) said the state could see wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour over the next day.

The organization warns these winds could blow unsecured objects around, knock over trees and cause power outages. Several counties had advised their citizens of this advisory as well.

The NWS added that Storm Prediction Center had most of the area is under a "slight risk" of thunderstorms and strong winds.

On top of that, the Maryland Department of Emergency Management said the threat of thunderstorms could develop mostly in the early afternoon for western Maryland. This could heavily impact the evening commute.

As of 5 p.m., there was a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for parts of northern Maryland until 9 p.m.

In addition, there could be some isolated thunderstorms also with damaging winds. This all comes as a cold front is moving through the state.

The NWS is advising people to take extra precautions especially when driving and to secure all outdoor objects.
